Samuell High School - March 12, 2009
On March 12, 2009, Parents Edge teamed up with representatives from Eastfield College to hold our Financial Aid & FAFSA workshop at Samuell High School. Parents were encouraged to bring all relevant tax information.  Parents (about 25), along with 20 high school seniors were in attendance learning about various components of financial aid such as scholarships, grants and the work-study program.  After the information session parents and their students jumped on the computers and filled out their FAFSA information. The FAFSA can be confusing at times, and this event allowed parents and students to ask questions and complete the FAFSA in a timely manner. While families were completing the FAFSA, other students were completing the PepsiCo Diamond Scholarship, a scholarship offered to Dallas seniors.

This was a solid event. We look forward to bringing additional beneficial information to Samuell H.S. parents.

Thomas Jefferson High School - April 21, 2009
Parents EDGE worked in conjunction with Thomas Jefferson High School to promote parental involvement by recruiting parents to attend the PTA meeting, followed by the Parents Edge financial aid workshop. Brookhaven College presented at the event, informing parents about different sources of financial aid, including information on the FAFSA and the Rising Star program. Brookhaven also promoted their dual credit program, a special program only offered to Thomas Jefferson students that allows them to begin receiving dual credit in the 11th and 12th grades.

This was a solid event. We look forward to bringing additional beneficial information to Thomas Jefferson H.S. parents.
