The Intern Experience

The summer of 2009 brought an unexpected surprise of 7 interns to the Education Department. It is safe to say that this was an unforgettable summer and one of the best ever! The interns were tasked with creating and running a business on their own. The proceeds of the business was to fund the start-up expenses of a major community event. The high-school aged interns pulled this momentous task off with flying colors!

All and all, the interns learned the value of teamwork and personal accountability. They will remember most the joys (and sometimes pains) of working together to accomplish a goal. They will remember the water fights, the burnt nachos (smile), the planning meetings, and how to organize and see a project through to completion.

The results of their phenomenal teamwork are listed below:

Gained Skills 4 Life
•Business planning/Proposal creation
•Marketing/Public speaking
•Event planning/Promotion
•Financial planning/Accounting
•Teamwork/Communication
Sparked Community Unity
Brought together businesses, churches, organizations for a common cause –
The first annual Community Family Reunion
Generated Funds
•Ran a money generating business for 4 weeks
•Acquired over $4,000 in donations in 3 weeks!

We are so proud of our interns and look forward to all of their future successes.

Hey interns, we'll always have Glendale!
