EDGE [100 FELLOWS/EDGE Juniors] is designed to increase a student's potential for success, both in and beyond high school, through academic, social and career preparation. Targeting high school seniors and juniors, it is about providing them with exposure to people and places they may not have access to otherwise.
EDGE takes students, with limited opportunity and exposure, outside of their environment and helps them to “See it,” so that they can “Be It!”
Through the EDGE program, the students
1. Enhance academic progress to create better opportunities
2. Widen career exposure to give better choices
3. Broaden community and leadership involvement to produce better citizenship
4. Teach social and life-skills to promote better decision-making
Individual Development Plan
A core component of the program is the tracking of the Individual Development Plan (IDP) for each EDGE participant. Through the help of volunteers/career mentors, EDGE participant progress is monitored over the course of one year in the areas of academic, career and social preparation..
This IDP method is strategically designed to address the individual needs of each participant, ensuring that their personal goals are reached. It gives the program added depth, intensifying the positive impact the EDGE program has on each participant.
EDGE Council
The EDGE Council is comprised of select group of juniors and seniors in the EDGE program.
Their role is to
1. be leaders among peers
2. coordinate behind the scenes to ensure program success
3. support program staff in Education Department
Primary responsibilities include serving in a journalistic capacity (photos/writing articles) to the program, interviewing career professionals, assisting program staff with planning major activities, calling program participants before events, serving as a liaison between participants and program staff, and other duties as assigned.
